Why are there 5 almonds?

The white almond is symbolic in colour with its purity and its
natural bitterness, covered in sugar, symbolise the
"bitter/sweet life" of a married couple.

The five almonds each represent health, wealth, happiness,
longevity and fertility.

The figure five is also symbolic, as, being a prime number,
cannot be divided - just like the wedding couple!
